John Ishmael joined the Nandina-Atlanta team as co-owner and Lead Designer with more than 20 years of experience in the field of interior design. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to Nandina, John owned and managed a successful custom workroom where he specialized in draperies, slipcovers, and custom furniture. His love of fabrics and fascination with creating new spaces segued seamlessly into success as a designer, and he is often known for his creative use of textiles in his design work.
John is passionate about art and enjoys a successful second career as an artist. A self-described serial renovator, John and his husband, Troy, and their four dogs live in a historic 120-year-old Victorian house in the West End neighborhood of Atlanta, a home they are constantly updating.
