Travel = Interior Inspiration

I just had the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream…take a trip to Peru!  My husband and I have wanted to go for ages, and we were finally able to pull it off.  We could not have had a better experience!  There were many highlights including Machu Picchu, a joyful morning at an elementary school, vibrant markets, a visit to a weaving cooperative, energetic parades, and a wild soccer match!

If you know me, you know that travel is one of my greatest passions for many reasons.  One significant reason is how the experiences I have on a trip directly impact the work I do every single day.  To visually illustrate this experience, I have gathered a few of my photographs from our trip and created rooms based on the spirit, colors, and textures of each.  These charrettes were a fun exercise, and they will surely influence client spaces in the future.

(1) This photograph I took of Machu Picchu inspired the first storyboard.  The vibrant greens, rough greys, and rich blues were captivating.  Look how such a gorgeous vista of nature and archaeological majesty can bring a space to life!

(2) While we were in the hills surrounding Cusco, we had the awesome opportunity to be a part of a Shaman Ceremony!  Here is a photograph of our Shaman.  Isn’t he fabulous?  You can see how the rich colors of his poncho and soft spirit inspired the next board.

This is one of my favorite faces that I encountered in the country of Peru.  This little girl and her brother were playing in a field, and we stopped to play with them for part of our afternoon.  They were simply precious.  The threads, similar to those that were once woven into her small skirt, were at the weaving cooperative.  Their all-natural colors and textures truly inspired me to put this board together.

If you are stumped on what to do with your own space, start digging in your old boxes of photos, flipping through your travel albums, or start planning a week or weekend away!  Entering into a trip knowing what inspiration you are looking for can make you experience your vacation in a whole new way.  Is there anything in your own home that has been inspired by a travel experience?  We’d love to see it or hear about it!

See the Best,
