The Wonderous World of Tile
Are you contemplating a remodeling project or embarking on building a new home? Navigating your way through the thousands of options at tile and home improvement stores can be a bewildering and stressful process!
I’ve recently had the good fortune to work on some great projects and have learned some helpful tips along the way…along with a few mistakes, of course!
First, do your homework before you go, whether it is a DIY project or you are planning to hire a design professional. There are great online sites, like Houzz.com, where you can gather your ideas into one place. Try to keep the look of your tile similar in style throughout your home.
Have a firm budget in mind before you go. You will likely be tempted by some high design options, but with a little digging you can find some great choices that fall within your price range.
Glass tiles are very abundant and popular in baths and kitchen back-splashes. I like to keep them simple, like this beautiful wall of soothing sea glass subway tiles.
Choose your focal point, and spend your dollars there. A glass mosaic back-splash and natural stone tiled wall take center stage.
Contrasting colors and textures add interest and dimension to your look. Notice how different these two black and white kitchens look, by changing cabinet and back-splash color, while the classic style remains the same.
Not everyone loves neutrals. If your design style is craving some color, the options today are far different than the avocado green bath of the 1970’s! The green shower is a combination of hand-made ceramic squares, and Crema Marfil marble, custom crafted into wainscoting…yum.
So whatever your project, there’s a tile out there that will inspire you to create the space you dream of!
