Colors of the Year for 2017

We love discovering what the forecasted colors of the year will be, and this year was certainly no exception.

Industry leaders, Pantone Color Institute & Benjamin Moore, recently released their 2017 color trends and we can’t wait to incorporate them into our designs this year! Interestingly enough, the colors couldn’t be more different from one another: Pantone’s “Greenery” & Benjamin Moore’s “Shadow”.

Pantone color of the year 2017 Greenery

A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.

When Pantone announced that “Greenery” was the color of the year for 2017, it received an abundance of great reviews. This is most likely attributed to the fact that people appreciate the symbolism of the color— vitality, a fresh start, and an homage to our surrounding nature.

Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose.

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute

This fresh and vibrant color is endearingly referred to as “nature’s neutral” and “trans-seasonal”, meaning that it pairs nicely with a multitude of colors.  Pantone created 10 color palettes in conjunction with Greenery, including neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels & metallics, to offer some suggestions and ideas. Our personal favorites include “Forest Floor” & “Rev It Up”.

This color forecast is not just for the interior design community, but for fashion, technology, beauty & architecture as well. Whether your workout wardrobe will be gaining a new green tank top, or you’re adding more plants and green accent pieces to your home, there are plenty of options that fit your personal style.

2017 color of the year trend Shadow Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year, Shadow, is allusive & enigmatic — a master of ambiance.

We look forward to Benjamin Moore’s color of the year just as much as Pantone’s, simply because they have a wonderful product and their paint colors are remarkable. Plus our local Aiken Marketplace Paints is fantastic— they are centrally located downtown and have excellent customer service. We’re loving this year’s color choice, Shadow, because it has a warm, grey undertone that everyone loves but an unexpected deep purple tone that is both rich and inviting.

It ebbs and flows with its surroundings, and light brings it to life. Rich, royal amethyst can fade into the soft lilac-grey of distant mountains or morph into lustrous coal. Indulge your mysterious side. Let Shadow set the mood.

Ellen O’Neill, Creative Director at Benjamin Moore

Don’t be afraid to use this color in your home! Yes it is a darker shade, and yes it is purple, but you might be surprised with how easy it is to incorporate this color into your existing decor. Because of the grey undertones, it pairs nicely with a variety of neutrals. If the color is too bold for your walls, try adding in an accent chair or a small vase in this shade! The possibilities are endless.

As always, color trends are just that – trends.

Don’t feel like you have to change your entire decor to match the forecasted popular shades unless they are colors you already love! Have fun with it and try something out of your comfort zone, even if it’s just adding in a small pop of “Greenery” or “Shadow” into your home.
