Christmas at Callanwolde Designer Showcase

Each year the magnificent 27,000 sq. ft. Gothic-Tudor mansion called Callanwolde is transformed by Atlanta’s top interior and floral designers.  This year Nandina Home and Design was chosen to transform the Library.  Lathem Gordon and John Ishmael were the dynamic duo that transformed the space, with Lathem acting as the Lead Designer for the team!  The design for the Library departs from the customary Christmas colors of red and green, instead introducing a regal color palette of plum, cream, antique silver and gold.  This modern color scheme is applied in a traditional way in order to provide an elegant balance of warmth, pizzazz, and glitz. As Lathem stated,   “Christmas at Callanwolde has a reputation of setting a high bar for design, and once again it lived up to its reputation.  Each room is perfectly executed and incredibly beautiful; it was such a great experience to be a part of this worthy project.”  The finished product represents and elegant blending of historical and contemporary elements that produce a space that can gracefully host a cozy Christmas party or a joyous ringing in of the NewYear.  The tour runs from December 5 – 18th, 2011.  If you are in Atlanta, don’t miss Christmas at Callanwolde!

The work begins!  Lathem busy decorating the tree

An Elegant palette of plum, cream, antique silver and gold!

A plum velvet covered daybed is a perfect grounding for an original piece of abstract art.

Custom made Christmas Stockings from our Nandina Workroom hang from the mantel that is swathed with artificial greenery enhanced with live magnolia and cedar.  The mantel is dressed with Mercury glass jars and candlesticks, with an original abstract from our own John Ishmael – simply elegant!

Bookshelves at the end of the room behind the tree were lined with custom designed Christmas Carol paper to make the shelves pop.  Lathem designed the song sheets and then had them printed on large format paper.  It was pinned to the back of the bookshelves.  How creative is that?

A bay of windows is dressed with custom cream silk drapperies banded in plum silk, from our Nandina Workroom.  The alcove accomodates a game table and four chairs.  The sofa is from Hickory chair, and a custom made dogbed from our workroom  is home to “Fido” our paper dog!

A pair of ceramic stag heads hang regally above a mirrored console with amethyst colored vases filled with white roses and greenery.
